Climate Change Debate

 

‘Challenge the Best’, an initiative by the Student Union of the HSG, invited some of the most honoured personalities of today and 40 of the brightest students from across Europe to discuss "Climate Change and social order - evolution or revolution". The dialogue will be continued in 2011.

Balance between Developing and Developed Countries

 

“How can we increase world society’s ability to adapt to climate change?” During the debate, Nobel Prize Winners and students discussed their different approaches to the key question. The Chemistry Nobel Prize Laureate Richard R. Ernst highlighted the significance of education in order to prevent further climate change: “Responsibility has to be our driving force.” The winner of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences (2007) Eric Maskin suggested: “We probably can't deal with climate change successfully without strong international treaties limiting greenhouse gas emissions.”

HSG President’s Board from 2011

 

New HSG President’s Board elected

The Cantonal Government has approved the future President’s Board of the University of St.Gallen (HSG). Prof. Dr. Thomas Bieger will be the new President, and Professors Ulrike Landfester, Vito Roberto and Torsten Tomczak the new Vice-Presidents. The new President’s Board will take office on 1 February 2011. Today’s Board under the leadership of President Prof. Ernst Mohr Ph.D. and Vice-Presidents Prof. Dr. Thomas Bieger, Prof. Dr. Thomas Dyllick and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Ehrenzeller will step down as at 31 January 2011 after three terms of office totalling six years.

During the panel discussion of the 40th St.Gallen Symposium Doris Leuthard and Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi discussed the role of the state in a mostly liberalized economy; How can sustainable innovations be realised? The profile research unit "Business Innovation" shows it; The HSG hosted the International Conference on Democracy and Decentralisation; The "HSG expert debate" with Sven Reinecke and Manfred Gärtner about the Soccer World Cup in South Africa.

"Swissness" still a popular brand

 

The Institute for Marketing of the HSG and htp St.Gallen Managementberatung AG, in cooperation with GfK Switzerland and McCann Erickson, have conducted a worldwide study of the perception of Switzerland. 3700 interviewees took part. The result: Swiss products and services continue to enjoy a high degree of popularity even in the economic and financial crisis.

Costumer Insight

 

Consumers receive sponsorship favourably

 

The Research Center for Customer Insight of the HSG has produced an extensive study of the effectiveness of sponsorship on behalf of IG Sponsoring. The study comes to two central conclusions: firstly, sponsorship is the second highest item in Swiss companies’ communication budgets; and secondly, if sponsorship activities are pursued professionally, their effect is very considerable. Between September 2009 and March 2010, 105 sponsorship managers, 186 consumers and 61 sales managers were interviewed about the topic of sponsorship.
